Special Opportunity | Super Reading Program

The Detroit Super Bowl XL Host Committee launched its Super Reading Program in September.  The program has three components.  One – the Host Committee has adopted 40 third grade classes in Detroit Public Schools and will incentives them to read more books with special prizes.  The second component encourages children in DPS to register for a commemorative edition Detroit Public Library card.  The final component is a book drive.

Charter One Bank branches in southeast Michigan are collecting new or gently used pre K – 8th grade books during the month of October.  Also Lions fans are encouraged to bring books to the October 30th game against the Chicago Bears.

Please consider bringing a book to the Super Make Over on Saturday, October 22.  Book collection bins will be available at the registration tables inside Comerica Park.

Thanks for your consideration.  We hope you will help spread the love of reading.

Previous Events.

This events stems from the All-Star Super Makeover, which took place on June 25, 2005.  The All-Star Super Makeover attracted approximately 1,000 volunteers who devoted three hours to picking up garbage, clearing debris, painting, weeding and generally getting our downtown in shape to host the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.  The game exceeded even the most optimistic expectations, as it generated positive impressions of metro Detroit around the world.
