Experience Detroit's music scene by visiting one of the area's many music festivals, bars clubs and venues.

  • Dally in the Alley - What began as an inner city art fair in 1977 evolved into a performing arts festival when it was moved to its present alley and renamed in 1982 to “DALLY IN THE ALLEY," the title of a medieval drinking song. Great musical talent, good beer and a remarkable string of fabulous September weather has indelibly marked the alley at Second and Forest in Detroit ’s Cass Corridor as the site of the best music festival in the Midwest.  The festival occurs the Saturday after Labor Day each year.
  • Fuse-In "Detroit's Electronic Movement" - Formerly known as Movement and the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, this annual event is the largest electronic music festival in the world, drawing audiences from across the globe. 
  • MC2 - First annual Motor City Music Conference (MC2) takes place in downtown Detroit on April 20-24, 2005, featuring three days of music industry panels, a music and lifestyle tradeshow at Cobo Center, and over 400 bands from all over the world performing in 40-plus Detroit venues.
  • The Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival - The largest free jazz festival in North America. The festival takes place in Hart Plaza over Labor Day weekend.
  • Chrysler Arts, Beats, and Eats - The festival, which takes place over Labor Day weekend in Pontiac, offers a diverse mix of national and local music, fine art and Oakland County's premier cuisine at a very reasonable cost.
  • Detroit Downtown Hoedown - The Detroit Downtown Hoedown is widely recognized as the largest Country Music show of its kind in the world. It takes place in Hart Plaza.
  • African World Festival - African World Festival is Detroit's largest ethnic festival, attracting over 1.5 million visitors annually. The festival is held on Detroit's Riverfront in the beautiful Hart Plaza. This weekend event celebrates the cultural contributions of the global Black community through music, educational programs, art and cuisine.
  • Farmer Jack Motor City Praisefest - This is the premier Gospel Music Festival in the world. Each year hundreds of thousands Detroiters visit Hart Plaza to hear their favorite gospel music artist perform.
  • Metro Times Hamtramck Blowout - Metro Times created Blowout to spotlight the wealth of local talent in the metro Detroit music scene. The festival features over 100 techno, hip-hop, rock and folk musical acts. This year's festival takes place in Hamtramck on March 1-5.
  • Comerica TasteFest - What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with great food and music? The Comerica TasteFest in Detroit's New Center features foods from some of the best restaurants in town, along with national and local musical acts.
  • Motown Historical Museum - The Motown Historical Museum traces the roots of Motown's remarkable story through a fascinating collection of historical photographs, artwork, music, costumes and other memorabilia from this booming musical era.
  • The Max M. Fisher Music Center - "The Max" is home to the world-renowned Detroit Synmphony Orchestra and to a variety of other concerts and entertainment including jazz performance by the world's top performers; a cabaret jazz series; poetry readings; chamber music performances; theatrical presentations, and more.
